Out with the Old, In with the New: 5 Design Trends NOT Making it to 2021

We're quickly approaching the New Year, and what better way to bring it in than with a newly decorated home. Your home can be seen as an extension of yourself, your visions, preferences, and enjoyments can be displayed throughout the home to create a perfectly customized living space. Luxury Lake Home is here today to shed some light on some of the home design trends that will NOT be joining us into the New Year.

Anything Faux

2021 is expected to see much less plastic decor and man-made materials. People are seeking more sustainability, and as such will opt for natural materials such as stones, wood, natural fabrics & coloring methods. It's shaping up to be a big year for biophilic design, but if taking care of plants seems a burden, choose preserved flowers.

Minimalism

The minimalist trend is headed out the door, as homeowners are seeking more layered, eclectic spaces. With the increased amount of time people are finding themselves indoors during 2020, the chore of constantly maintaining the ultra-sleek and modern minimalist look nearly impossible. Leaving people to adopt a more maximalist appearance for functionality in 2021.

Single Purpose Spaces & Furnishings

The COVID pandemic has highlighted the need for multi-purpose living spaces, pushing out the single-purpose methods that were being used. It's been realized this year, the benefits that come to having a home that can also function as a gym, school, and office. So, we'll be seeing much less of the singular purposed spaces and furnishings going into the new year.

Open Floor Plans

Open floor plans are in line with the single purpose spaces, in that they have proven not to be as functional as needed, in light of the pandemic. When you are in need of multi-purpose areas in your home for functionality reasons, you'll want to ensure that there is an option for privacy. Having this privacy to carry out tasks improves functionality and productivity - plus it helps you keep your sanity.

Modern Farmhouse

The modern farmhouse look is on it's way out the door as well. The reason being, it's been overused. This aesthetic showing up in many apartments and urban areas implementing this method of decor in places where it's not organic. However, if you are in love with your current farmhouse setup, consider integrating some rustic pieces to help it stand out.
