Enjoying Caves and Karst Day at Lake of the Ozarks

After a long winter and spring season, many of our clients are ready to find fun and safe ways to get out of the house and enjoy some nature. Living in a luxury home at Lake of the Ozarks has its advantages, but even these enormous homes can feel small when you are cooped up in them for so long. Thankfully, Caves and Karst Day is happening on June 6th, and it’s a wonderful way to get out of the house as well as support some local businesses. Here are a few caves that are offering tours right now at the Lake of the Ozarks, and we hope you get a chance to support them while you are vacationing in your luxury home during the season!

Bridal Cave

Bridal Cave is in Camdenton, MO located just off of Hwy 5 on Lake Road 5-88. You can also reach this cave by the water on mile marker 10.5 on the Big Niangua Arm of the Lake. The cave is keeping with the Indian legend and tradition that weddings were held inside this cave, and at this point, well over 3,000 weddings have continued on the tradition! This cave is also available for tours where you can enjoy the massive columns, stalactites, stalagmites, and draperies from beginning to end. There is even a sparkling crystal clear Spirit Lake inside the cave. If you are interested in taking a tour, be sure to visit their website to learn about current cleanliness standards, hours of operation, and any other details you may need to know before heading out there - www.BridalCave.com.

Jacob’s Cave

Jacob’s Cave is located north of Gravois Ills and is considered the largest cave in the Lake area. It’s a “walk through” cave and completely accessible to those with disabilities. When inspected, there are signs that this cave has been through six ice ages and three earthquakes. Not to mention you can enjoy depth illusion, pools, ceiling sponge-work, the prehistoric bones of mastodons, bears, and a peccary, as well as the World’s Largest Geode. It’s a mile-long tour, and a wonderful way to enjoy nature and appreciate the beauty of soda straws, stalactites, and columns. They are one of the top tourist attractions at the Lake. If you want more information, be sure to visit their website to learn about current health precautions and hours: www.JacobsCave.com.

Stark Caverns

This cave is located out past Bagnell Dam and was originally used by animals for shelter and winter hibernation. You can even enjoy seeing bear beds along the pathway! There are also signs that this cave was used by Native Americans based on the many artifacts that have been found, as well as by settlers who stored goods and made moonshine in it. One really fun fact is that it was also used as a Ballroom in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and it was then converted into a Speakeasy during the prohibition. You’ll get to enjoy all of the wonders of the cavern through the underground lake, and formations like helectites, helegmites, soda straws, flowstone, dripstone, cave coral, spongework, and stromotolite fossils. You can also enjoy the scenic view from the wrap-around porch at the Visitor’s Center, know that the caverns are 85% wheelchair accessible with wide walking paths and areas to rest. Head over to their web page to check the tour schedule and purchase tickets: www.StarkCaverns.com.
