Get Out and Enjoy the Outdoors!

June is Great Outdoors Month, and conveniently, June 18th is Fishing Day and Picnic Day! We’re going to cover some of the fish types that you’ll find in the Lake of the Ozarks, as well as a few prime spots for enjoying a wonderful picnic. This week’s forecast looks a little grim - but you still have the rest of the month to make the most of these fun ways to get outdoors!


Common Fish Species in the Lake of the Ozarks

Largemouth Bass
Size: Total length: 10 to 20 inches; weight: ½ to 4½ pounds; maximum about 24 inches and 15 pounds.

Blue Catfish
Size: Total length: 20-44 inches; weight: 3-40 pounds. Fish weighing 80-100 pounds are occasionally caught.

Walleye
Adult length: 12–28 inches; weight: 8 ounces to 8 pounds. Much larger specimens can occur.

Bluegill
Size: Length: to about 9½ inches; weight: usually to 12 ounces.

White Bass
Size: Total length: 9-15 inches; weight: 1/4 to 1 1/4 pounds; maximum about 17 1/2 inches and 2 3/4 pounds.

Channel Catfish
Size: Total length: 12-32 inches; weight: 1-15 pounds. Specimens are as large as 45 pounds are uncommon in Missouri.

Flathead Catfish
Size: Total length: 15–45 inches; width: 1–45 pounds

Spotted Bass
10 to 17 inches; weight: 1/2 to 3 1/2 pounds; maximum about 20 inches and 4 to 5 pounds.

Paddlefish
Size: Length: to about 7 feet; weight: to 160 pounds or more.

Picnic Places at the Lake of the Ozarks

Ha Ha Tonka
This is one of two State Parks at the Lake of the Ozarks, and with many trails and picnic areas, you’re sure to find a place that is perfect for settling down and enjoying time with family. Whether you hike up to the castle ruins, enjoy a stroll down to the spring, or even hike out to the Natural Bridge, you can both enjoy the Great Outdoors AND enjoy a picnic. If you’re looking for something to do in Camdenton, this is a wonderful place.

Lake of the Ozarks State Park
Lake of the Ozarks State Park covers 17,626.55 acres! It’s an enormous section of land, with plenty of areas to explore. There are a few public beaches, picnic pavilions, playgrounds, and more. It’s a wonderful area to explore, and if you’re looking for something on the Osage Beach and Lake Ozark end, it’s a wonderful spot.

The Boat!
This is a no-brainer! Grab that luxury boat from the dock and take it out for a spin! Enjoy the fresh air, the sunshine, the water spray - and a picnic! Picnicking on a boat is a wonderful place to enjoy the wonderful holiday.
