Putting the Final Touches on Your Home Office

With many people now working from home instead of the office, you may be finding that having a home office space is extremely important. Many luxury homes at the Lake of the Ozarks already have office spaces designed into the footprint, but even so, you may find that you aren’t feeling inspired for productivity in the space when being in there full time instead of occasionally. Here are a few things you can do to help inspire creativity in your home office and win at the quarantined and working from home situation.

Remove the Distractions

Consider what distracts you from your work and then remove those from your immediate workspace. You will know better than anyone what is going to be a stumbling block. It could be a TV or a gaming system. It could even be having the fridge in line of sight, or even facing a window as you get distracted by the view instead of the task at hand. No matter where your workspace is located, you can make changes to help keep you from having to constantly redirect your attention back to your task.

Make Smart Investments

When increasing productivity in your home office, it’s going to start with investing in the correct tools. From having an ergonomic chair to a desk that can hold all of your documents, supplies, and technology, have tools that help you get the best from your work. Focus on the resources that will encourage productivity, and don’t skimp on the necessary items in leu of attractive items, as you will want your space to be as functional as possible.

Add Power Colors

Orange is considered the color of focus, productivity, and organization. In fact, the brighter the hue, the better, they say. You don’t have to paint the entire room orange (though you can!), it’s more just about having a few orange elements in the space like a vase, lamp, or piece of art. This can help inspire energy and concentration!

A Norwegian study also found that desk plants and flowers can help improve attention rates and help keep people focused on their work. Some conclusions think that it’s because items of nature can provide a quick distraction from what you’re working on, giving you a brain break, so to speak.

Look at the Lighting

The lighting in your home office is so important, not just for the ambiance, but also for ensuring that you can see what you’re working on without needing to strain your eyes. Make light a priority, and be sure to pay attention to those areas where you really need to see what you are doing. Afraid you’ll have too much light? No such thing! It’s always better to have plenty than not enough, as you can always turn lights off or down. Utilize table lamps, floor lamps, and use “cool” light bulbs over “warm” but to help maintain concentration and clarity of mind.

Find Ways to Control the Temperature

Being too hot or too cold while working is a sure way to get distracted. Find ways to help moderate the temperatures in your space to make it as comfortable as possible. Keeping a space heater or a warm blanket or sweater in your office can help when it’s too cold. If your room stays warmer you can keep a fan on your desk and drink plenty of water. Keeping your body temperature stabilized will help you stay relaxed and focused.
